How to Repair Water Filter Housing in a Frigidaire Refrigerator

General Motors purchased the Guardian Frigerator Company in 1918 and renamed it Frigidaire. The company became a well-known manufacturer of refrigerators and other appliances. Now owned by Electrolux, Frigidaire models are generally reliable, but problems can develop that require your attention. If the water filter housing cracks or gets damaged inside the fridge, you will need to repair it immediately to prevent leaks. While epoxy may seal a crack in the short-term, it is better to replace the housing outright to prevent problems in the future.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Frigidaire refrigerator so there is no risk of electrical discharge during the repair.

    • 2

Empty out the top shelf of the fridge. Pull the top shelf out so you have access to the panel in the back.

    • 3

Insert a quarter-inch nut driver in the access hole in the upper right corner of the fridge to undo the bolt that holds the access panel in place. Pull the cover off once it comes loose and set it aside. You'll see the filter housing in the back corner once the cover is removed.

    • 4

Detach the filter housing from the back wall by using the quarter-inch nut driver to undo the bolts. Pull the housing out so you have easier access to the two water lines connected at the top.

    • 5

Undo the clips holding the two water lines to the filter by pushing up on them with a flat-head screwdriver.

    • 6

Press the two water lines down onto the new housing. Screw the housing in place in the back corner.

    • 7

Screw the cover on the filter housing. Replace the top shelf and put the food back in the fridge. Plug the Frigidaire back in.
