How to Change the Doors on a Frigidaire Electrolux

Changing the door of your Frigidaire Electrolux refrigerator isn’t a difficult process as long as you follow the correct steps. The door is secured on a set of hinges, at the top and bottom, but removal only requires that you disconnect a single hinge. The disconnection requires nothing more than a Phillips-head screwdriver, and after its removal, the door lifts right off. Placing the new door is just a simple reversal of the removal process.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the refrigerator from the wall and empty out any food still resting in the doors of the unit.

    • 2

Close both doors of the refrigerator and then push the clips on the right and left edges of the toe grille along the bottom of the unit toward the outside edge of the refrigerator. Open both doors of the refrigerator as widely as possible and then press downward on the top of the toe grille to unhook it from the unit. Pull the toe grille away from the base of the refrigerator to remove it, and then close the doors back.

    • 3

Remove the screws holding the cover over the top hinge of the refrigerator doors with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Set the screws aside for reuse with the new door, and then pull the hinge cover off the hinge.

    • 4

Unscrew the screws holding the top hinge in place with the Phillips-head screwdriver. Lift the door upwards, pulling it off the bottom hinge, and then pull the door away from the front of the refrigerator once the hinge is cleared.

    • 5

Lift the replacement door, position the hinge opening in the bottom corner over the hinge and then lower the door in place. Push the top of the door against the top of the refrigerator body until the holes in the door hinge match the mounting holes in the refrigerator body. Screw the two retaining screws from the old door through the hinge into the body to hold the door securely in place. Restore the hinge cover, and then screw the three cover screws in place, to add additional security to the hinge placement.

    • 6

Take out any items from the freezer door.

    • 7

Remove the screws from the hinge cover from the top freezer door hinge with the screwdriver, and then lift the cover from the hinge.

    • 8

Unscrew the hinge screws from the multi-wire cable connector over the hinge. Pull the connector from the top of the refrigerator, and then pull the wires holding the connector in place apart at the connector. Pull the end of the small water tube in the freezer door from the port in the refrigerator body just below the door of the freezer. Press the outer ring of the sleeve holding the tube in place toward the body of the refrigerator to release the tube, and then pull it gently out of the connector port.

    • 9

Remove the screws holding the top hinge of the freezer in place and thread the multi-wire cable ends through the hinge to clear them for removal of the door. Lift the door from the bottom hinge assembly of the freezer and pull the door away from the refrigerator body.

    • 10

Lift the replacement freezer door high enough to clear the bottom hinge with the bottom of the door. Lower the hinge mount hole over the bottom hinge assembly, and then thread the multi-wire cable end back through the replacement door hinge. Push the door against the refrigerator body.

    • 11

Screw the top hinge of the freezer door in place. Reconnect the water tube to the inlet by pushing the connector ring against the refrigerator body, and then pushing the tube in place. Release the ring onto the tube to secure it into position. Reconnect the multi-wire cable to the connector on the top of the freezer, and then screw the connector back above the top freezer hinge. Cover the connector with the hinge cover and screw it into place to complete the freezer door replacement process.

    • 12

Open the refrigerator doors and then push the toe grille back onto the front of the refrigerator. Open the doors and slide the clips on both sides of the grille over the grille edge to lock it into place. Place any items removed from the fridge doors back, close the doors and then plug the refrigerator back into the electrical socket for normal operation.
