How to Install Water Tanks for GE Profile Ice Makers

The General Electric icemaker uses a water pan to push water through the appliance for ice production, and may require replacement if the water pan develops a leak or becomes corroded after continuous use. The water pan is also necessary to distribute cleaning solution through the appliance to maintain clean-tasting ice, and can become damaged if the incorrect cleaning solution is poured into the pan. Once replaced, the water pan freezes water flowing through it within 24 hours after installation.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the icemaker and open the icemaker's door to access the water pan.

    • 2

Locate the drain cap beneath the icemaker and unscrew it to drain all of the current water from the appliance.

    • 3

Remove the screws on the left and right side of the water pan with the Phillips screwdriver. Set the screws aside in a safe place, as you will need them to secure the new water pan in the icemaker.

    • 4

Push down on the water pan and use your free hand to pull forward to release the old water pan from the icemaker's housing.

    • 5

Push the new water pan inward and use your other hand to simultaneously push the pan up to secure it back into the icemaker.

    • 6

Insert and secure the screws in the holes located on the left and right side of the water pan to lock the pan in place.

    • 7

Insert the drain cap into the bottom of the new water pan. Twist the drain cap to the right to lock the cap into the water pan, and shut the icemaker's door.

    • 8

Insert the icemaker's power cord into the nearby power outlet, and push "Power On" to turn on the icemaker and begin ice production.
