How to Fix the Cracked Tube of a Frigidaire Ice Maker

The components of an ice maker undergo a lot of wear and tear due to the constant process of freezing and thawing. The temperature differentials causes contraction and expansion in the individual pieces, and the strain eventually causes components to crack. Frigidaire is a well-known appliance company that makes a wide variety of refrigerator models. While the refrigerators are usually durable, the parts are still susceptible to breaking. Fixing a cracked tube of a Frigidaire ice maker requires a few basic materials.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the refrigerator to eliminate any risk of electrical shock during repair. Empty any ice out of the ice maker.

    • 2

Unscrew the ice maker from its housing in the freezer with a screwdriver and pull it out gently. Unhook the wiring harness from the back to pull it out all the way. Place it on a towel to prevent it from leaking any water on your counter.

    • 3

Clean the tube by wiping it down with a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol. This helps remove any dirt or debris that interferes with the repair process. Dry the tube with a rag.

    • 4

Apply an epoxy to the cracked tube and hold the crack together as the epoxy dries. Wipe away any excess with a rag. The epoxy forms a waterproof seal in the crack so it doesn't leak anymore. It takes up to an hour for the epoxy to dry fully.

    • 5

Hook the ice maker back up to the wiring harness and rescrew it back into its housing with your screwdriver. Turn the refrigerator back on to see if the ice maker works properly.

    • 6

Replace the tube if cracking is still a problem by taking the ice maker out again and pulling the old tube off. Slide a new one on where the old one was. Follow any installation instructions included with the replacement tube, but it normally slides onto a connector on both sides.
