Remove all food from the doors of the refrigerator and put it in a cooler with ice to prevent the food from spoiling. You may wish to remove all food, not just from the doors. This will depend on the speed at which you plan to work.
Pull off the toe grille at the base of the refrigerator.
Stand on a ladder and look at the top hinge on the freezer door of the fridge. There will be a cover on top of the hinge -- pull it off.
Unscrew the top hinge using a screwdriver, then pull the freezer door up off the center pin. Set the door aside.
Use an adjustable wrench to remove the center hinge pin, leaving the washer on the pin.
Pull the refrigerator door up and away from the bottom hinge. Set the door aside.
Unscrew the shim and center hinge. Set the shim and hinge aside, then replace the screws in their original holes.
Unscrew the corresponding screws on the opposite side of the refrigerator frame and screw the center hinge and shim into place.
Remove the screws from the bottom of the refrigerator frame holding in the bottom hinge. Use a 3/8 socket wrench.
Switch the bottom hinge to the opposite side of the refrigerator frame and attach them to the frame with the screws you removed in Step 9.
Use a screwdriver to unscrew the refrigerator door handles and freezer door handles. The freezer door handle will be used as the new refrigerator door handle, and the refrigerator door handle will now be the freezer door handle. Remove the button plugs on the opposite sides of the doors, then attach the handles to the new locations by screwing them into the holes where the button plugs were. Place button plugs in the holes where the door handles used to be.
Unscrew the freezer and refrigerator door stops and screw them into the corresponding positions on the opposite sides of the doors.
Lift the refrigerator door and place it on the bottom hinge pin. Screw the center hinge pin into place in the center hinge, and into the top of the door. You will probably need to remove a hinge hole plug from the door to do this. Place the hinge hole plug into the old hole where the hinge used to be on the opposite side of the door.
Place the freezer door on the center hinge pin, then have a friend hold the door while you screw the top hinge and pin into place on the door frame. You will probably encounter more hinge hole plugs -- just remove them and place them in the old holes on the opposite sides of the door.
Flip the toe grille and push it into place onto the bottom of the door.
Wait for the refrigerator to cool again before putting the food back in the refrigerator.
Wipe off any finger prints from the stainless steel surface with soapy water and a rag. Lingering fingerprints can be removed with a dab of olive oil on a soft rag. Stainless steel smudges easily, so you may see many smudges around the old handle. Use vinegar for tough spots. Do not use bleach or abrasive cleaners or abrasive cleaning pads.
