How to Remove the Front Panel From a Fridge

Older style refrigerators were cosmetically simple, but newer refrigerators come with all sorts of bells and whistles, including a water and ice dispenser on the front of the refrigerator. A dispenser panel exists for aesthetic and safety purposes. Removing the front panel may be necessary to test the dispenser or to replace a part. A small screwdriver is all that’s necessary to free the panel from the refrigerator.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect your refrigerator’s power cord from its outlet or power strip.

    • 2

Shine a flashlight under the dispenser panel. You should see either one or two notches. Place a small flat-head screwdriver into the notch and pry the panel back slightly. If the panel has only one notch, continue to pry back until the bottom of the panel disconnects from the refrigerator. If the panel has two notches, pry the panel back at both notches until the bottom of the panel is freed from the refrigerator.

Lift the panel up and away from the refrigerator to disconnect the top portion of the panel. You may have to turn the panel slightly to jar it loose from the refrigerator

Disconnect all wires connecting into the panel. Depending on the type of refrigerator you have, you may need to disconnect a wire or two from the panel itself. These wires are typically screwed into the panel or attached by a clip. Once disconnected, you can fully remove the panel from the refrigerator.
