How to Replace Tubes With Reservoirs on Refrigerator Water Dispensers

Many models of refrigerators that have a water dispenser attached to the front of the freezer door have a water reservoir part that holds water within the back end of the right hand side of the refrigerator. The water supply and feed tubes are connected to the reservoir and the two tubes can be manually replaced if there is any damage to the tubes, such a rip causing leakage. New feed or water supply tubes can be ordered through your refrigerator's manufacturer or an online retailer.

Instructions

    • 1

Move your refrigerator away from the wall, and unplug the power cord from the wall.

    • 2

Turn the water supply valve, which is a metal handle connected to wall behind your refrigerator, to the "Off" position. The water supply valve also runs a water line to the back of your refrigerator.

    • 3

Open the refrigerator door, and remove the food. Pull out the shelves in the refrigerator so that you have access to the back of the unit.

    • 4

Remove the water reservoir cover, a white plastic square part that is located at the bottom center of the interior back panel. The cover will also have a feed tube line connected to the top of it. Many covers can be pulled off, but some may require you to remove screws holding the cover in place.

    • 5

Pull out the water supply and feed tube from the side of the water reservoir using your hands or by using needle nose pliers if the tubes are connected too tightly. Remove the dispenser cover from the front of the freezer door, which may require you to remove screws from the cover.

    • 6

Locate the feed tube connected to the dispenser, then pull off the tube. Pull the tube all the way out the refrigerator.

    • 7

Connect a new feed tube to the dispenser, and then slide the rest of the tube over into the refrigerator side. Connect the other end of the new feed tube to the water reservoir.

    • 8

Locate the water supply tube on the back of the refrigerator, and pull out the top of the tube. Pull the tube out of the back of the refrigerator.

    • 9

Connect the new water supply tube to the back connector on the refrigerator, then slide the tube back into the refrigerator.

    • 10

Connect the new water supply tube to the water reservoir, then place the reservoir cover back on. Place the food and shelves back into the refrigerator.

    • 11

Turn the water supply valve back to the "On" position, then plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
