A Leaking Water Dispenser in a Jenn-Air JRSD24

The Jenn-Air JRSD24 is a frost-free refrigerator with adjustable temperature controls, humidity-controlled crispers and an ice and water dispenser on the freezer door. The water dispenser has a lever that is pressed to release the water and is next to the ice dispenser under the electronic control panel. A dripping water dispenser is a common problem that has a few possible sources.
  1. New Installation

    • If the Jenn-Air refrigerator was recently installed, there may be air in the water line, causing the water dispenser to drip. Press a large, empty container against the water dispenser lever to dispense water for several minutes and remove the air from the water line. Once the water dispenser stops spurting water and the water flows constantly with clear water into the container, stop dispensing.

    Water Pressure

    • The water pressure on the water system might be too low, causing problems with water dispensing. The water pressure for most water dispensers is between 20 and 120 psi. You can use a water pressure gauge on a household faucet to check the household water pressure. Contact a plumber if the water pressure is too low or if you are not sure how to use a water pressure gauge.

    Negative Pressure

    • One less common source of a leak in the water dispenser is the creation of negative pressure when the freezer door is opened, temporarily creating a pressure vacuum. This prevents the water from releasing from the dispenser. Contact Jenn-Air for service if the problem always occurs when the freezer door was recently opened, as a refrigerator part called an anti-run-on kit can be installed to correct the issue.

    Dispenser Tray

    • There is a small tray under the ice and water dispenser that catches water that drips down. Note that this tray does not have a drain and can become full and drip, which might lead you to think the water dispenser is dripping. Lift out the tray slowly and empty into a sink, then set the tray back into the housing on the freezer door.
