GE Profile Refrigerator Maintenance

The Profile refrigerator is one of GE's higher-end models and should work without problems for years. Like any appliance, your GE Profile refrigerator needs simple maintenance in order to keep it running at top efficiency. Keep a simple checklist in mind and follow it regularly to make sure your refrigerator runs smoothly and efficiently throughout its life.
  1. Keep it Level

    • Over time, your GE Profile refrigerator may become less than level due to normal wear and tear or to the floor settling beneath it. Check the level of your refrigerator with a carpenter's level set on top of the appliance. If the refrigerator base is uneven, level it by turning the adjusting screws under the front grille clockwise to raise that corner or counterclockwise to lower it.

    Keep White Handles White

    • Your Profile refrigerator may have white handles installed as a decorative feature. These handles, while attractive, get visibly dirty much quicker than basic stainless steel versions. GE recommends keeping white handles clean by using a closed-cell sponge eraser made for cleaning.

    Keep the Inside Clean

    • Clean the inside of your refrigerator on a regular basis to keep it fresh and free of bad odors. Unplug the refrigerator and remove all of the food. Mix together a quart of warm water and 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Sponge the inside of the refrigerator and all the shelves with this solution then wipe them off with a damp sponge. Allow the interior of the refrigerator to air-dry before returning the food to the shelves.

    Keep the Gasket Pliable

    • Your GE Profile refrigerator door has a gasket to bridge the gap between the door and the body of the refrigerator. This pliable gasket will get stiff and crack over time without proper maintenance. Wipe down the gasket to remove any food or debris every month and apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly. This will penetrate the gasket material and keep it from getting stiff and brittle.
