How to Check a Frigidaire Evaporator Coil

Evaporator coils serve as one of the most vital components to a working Frigidaire refrigerator. If you’re experiencing problems with your refrigerator, such as a lack of cooling even at the highest temperature, your evaporator coils may have frost built up on them. The frost doesn’t usually point to faulty evaporator coils, but rather something wrong with your refrigerator’s defrosting process. To check your Frigidaire's evaporator coils, you’ll need to locate them in the interior of your freezer. After removing a few screws and your freezer’s panel, you’ll see the evaporator coils.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the power from your Frigidaire refrigerator. Checking the evaporator coils while the refrigerator is still running can result in shock.

    • 2

Open the freezer portion of your Frigidaire refrigerator. Identify the panel sitting at the back of the freezer. Remove all items that stand in the way of the panel, such as an icemaker, shelves and bins.

    • 3

Remove all retaining screws from the panel. Typically, there are four to six screws. After removing the screws, place the panel outside of the freezer.

    • 4

Identify the evaporator coils, which look like a series of looping coils sometimes covered by a grate-like object.
