How to Attach a Refrigerator Door

A refrigerator door may be removed when the appliance is being shipped to another location or as part of a maintenance procedure. Many refrigerators also feature reversible doors that can be removed and hinged on either the right or left side of the unit. Whatever the reason for the door’s removal, the door must be properly reattached to ensure it seals well and is aligned correctly. Attaching a refrigerator door to the appliance is a job you can do with basic do-it-yourself skills.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the lower hinge pin hole at the bottom of the refrigerator door. If you can't see the pin hole, have a helper tip the door back.

    • 2

Position the door over the lower hinge pin of the refrigerator. The lower pin is permanently attached to the hinge frame. Have the helper raise the door as you guide the hinge pin into the door hole.

    • 3

Align the pin hole at the top of the door with the hole in the upper hinge of the refrigerator.

    • 4

Insert the top hinge pin through the hole in the hinge frame and into the pin hole of the door. Tighten the hinge pin clockwise using an adjustable wrench.
