How to Install a Thermostat for a Frigidaire Refrigerator

Open the freezer and refrigerator doors and look for the temperature control box. If you have a side-by-side refrigerator, this box is usually located in the rear of the freezer compartment. The control box in a freezer-on-top model may be located under the floor panel of the refrigerator compartment or near the back of the freezer compartment.

Unplug the refrigerator and remove any food or racks that may be blocking your access to the thermostat. Remove the retaining screws that connect the temperature control box to the inside of the refrigerator.

Disconnect the existing thermostat if this is a replacement job. Skip this step if your Frigidaire refrigerator does not have a previously installed thermostat. Pull the wires off the old thermostat with needle-nose pliers. Loosen any clamps or clips that secure the thermostat to the evaporator tube, then pull the thermostat out of the control box.

Locate the retaining clips or clamps that connect the thermostat to the inside of the temperature control box or evaporator tube. Set the thermostat in place and secure the applicable clips or clamps. Attach the electrical wiring to the terminals of the new thermostat.

Replace the temperature control box and tighten the retaining screws. Plug the refrigerator's power cord back into the electrical outlet and replace any racks you removed. Wait for the refrigerator to reach the desired temperature before replacing any perishable food items.
