How to Replace a Refrigerator's Dispenser Housing on a Maytag

Many Maytag refrigerators come equipped with an ice and water dispenser on the outside of the door. This is a convenient feature, but it can be prone to damage due to the fact it is exposed. It isn't uncommon to experience cracks or scratches in the dispenser housing. If the damage to the housing prevents you from using the dispenser properly, you can remove and replace it yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the power cable of your Maytag refrigerator.

    • 2

Insert the tip of your flathead screwdriver in the seam where the dispenser housing meets the refrigerator.

    • 3

Work your way along the sides of the housing, popping the internal clips as you go.

    • 4

Pull the housing off of the door. You can now fit a new housing in the old one's place and press it in at the sides and corners until the clips are secure. If you need to replace additional components in the dispenser, proceed to the next step.

    • 5

Lift the control panel slightly up and pull it out of the housing. Unplug the circuit board wiring from the port at the rear of the control panel. Set the control panel aside. You can now replace it with a new one if need be.

Remove the Phillips screws from the corners of the plastic panel covering the top of the flapper. Remove the panel to expose the dispenser flapper.

    • 7

Pull the dispenser flapper down to unclip and remove it. You can now fit a new one in its place.

    • 8

Replace the flapper panel, screws, control panel, wiring and housing.
