How to Remove a Door Water Dispenser on a Whirlpool Refrigerator

Whirlpool refrigerators have models that come with a water dispenser built into the freezer door. Over time, the water dispenser may malfunction or the plastic parts may crack or break, which will require repair. Depending on the issue, you may need to repair or replace the entire dispenser, which requires you to remove the dispenser from the refrigerator.

Instructions

      Disconnect the power to the Whirlpool refrigerator by unplugging it from the electrical outlet.

      Slide out the drip tray from the bottom of the dispenser.

      Slide a flat-head screwdriver under the lower lip of the water dispenser’s trim frame.

      Pull forward on the screwdriver with one hand to pry the trim frame away. Use caution not to scratch the finish on the refrigerator.

      Grasp the top, center of the housing with your other hand and pull upward while you are prying the trim frame away at the bottom, until the housing comes off.

      Locate the tab on the control panel’s wire harness and push in on the clips on both sides of the tab to disconnect the wire harness.

      Unscrew the eight screws that line the dispenser’s perimeter by using a Phillips screwdriver.

      Grasp the dispenser and pull it out toward you to remove it.
