How to Remove a Kenmore Refrigerator Ice Tray

Kenmore refrigerators are manufactured by Whirlpool and have a Whirlpool-made ice maker installed in the freezer compartment. One of the most important components of the ice maker is the ice tray, which is the mold that forms the ice cubes. The ice tray has a special coating that allows the ice maker to easily remove the ice cubes from the ice tray during the harvest cycle. To remove the ice tray you must remove the ice maker from the freezer, as it is physically attached to the ice maker.

Instructions

    • 1

Move the refrigerator away from the wall outlet. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

    • 2

Pull the ice bucket out from below the ice maker. Set the bucket aside.

    • 3

Remove the screw on the bottom of the ice maker. This screw helps to secure the ice maker to the side-wall of the freezer. Skip this step if the screw is not present, as some models of Kenmore freezers do not include this screw.

    • 4

Loosen the two mounting screws that secure the top of the ice maker to the side-wall of the freezer using a Phillips-style screwdriver.

    • 5

Lift the ice maker up and off of the mounting screws, passing the screws through the eyelets in the top of the ice maker brackets.

    • 6

Move the ice maker toward the front of the freezer.

    • 7

Depress the tab on the wire ice maker connector and disconnect it.

    • 8

Remove the ice maker from the freezer to inspect the ice tray.
