Cut the power for the refrigerator, either at the main circuit breaker, if you cannot reach the power cable, or by pulling the refrigerator plug out of the socket.
Pull the refrigerator forward so you can access the back panel. Use caution when moving the appliance across the floor so you don't damage the floor covering. Many Profile models are equipped with wheels at the front that can help when relocating.
Remove any back panels present with a screwdriver or hex head wrench.
Remove the plastic covering or protective panel from the top of the capacitor. The capacitor on most Profile models is located on the compressor at the base of the refrigerator. The capacitor is about 2 to 3 inches in height and cylindrically shaped.
Connect a 20K Ohm 2 watt resistor to a 6-inch length of wire at either end using alligator clips. Attach the end of each wire to the shaft of a metal screwdriver with another clip. Touch the tips of the screwdrivers to each of the terminals on the capacitor and hold them in place for several seconds. Remove the screwdrivers, wait a few seconds, then repeat the process. This will discharge any electrical current.
Pull the connecting wires off each of the capacitor terminals using a pair of needle-nose pliers. Make a note of which wire connects to which terminal to aid when replacing.
Remove the capacitor from the retention bracket by loosening the holding straps or other fixtures. Pull the capacitor out of place. Replace with a new capacitor and secure. Reconnect the wires to the capacitor in the same configuration as with the old capacitor.
Replace the back panel on the Profile, if needed. Plug the refrigerator back into the electrical outlet and restore the power.
