A blinking red light, flashing once, indicates an obstruction blocking the optical sensor used to detect when the ice bin is full. The light automatically comes on when the freezer door is open so the user can check on the status of the ice maker. Several flashes in a row indicate a different problem with the ice maker mechanism.
The ice maker is fitted with an optical sensor so the mechanism does not mindlessly produce cubes until the ice bucket overflows. When the pile of cubes passes the optical sensor the mechanism automatically turns off until the user dispenses enough cubes to warrant a fresh crop.
Dispense a few cubes or smooth the existing pile flat with the palm of your hand until the cubes are low enough not to trip the sensor. After a few hours a fresh crop of cubes will be dispensed into the storage bucket. Alternatively, empty the bucket into a plastic bag to start a fresh crop. Keep the bag of cubes in the freezer in advance of your next party.
Occasionally frost develops on the sensor and items in the freezer tip into the path of the optical beam. Wipe the sensor with a clean, dry cloth and remove any items in the freezer that have tipped into the ice maker. Confirm there is nothing else in the path of the beam shutting off the mechanism.
