Problems With No Water Flow in a KitchenAid Refrigerator

The KitchenAid refrigerator’s water dispenser is designed to deliver 9 ounces of water within five seconds. Occasionally, the dispenser malfunctions, usually due to simple problems that are easily repaired. If the dispenser doesn't work after troubleshooting, contact KitchenAid to have a certified technician repair the problem.
  1. Hose

    • Check the plastic hose that runs from behind the KitchenAid refrigerator to the water source. If this hose isn't properly connected to the refrigerator or the water source, water does not run through it. The hose may become kinked or damaged. Replace a damaged water hose with a new one, available from KitchenAid or at most home improvement stores. Holes in the hose can leak water, damaging flooring and drywall.

    Water Source

    • An easily remedied cause of no water flow is the valve. Turning the valve at the water source all the way to the right lets water freely flow to the refrigerator. If the hose ever leaks, turning the valve to the left shuts the water off.

    Filters

    • All KitchenAid refrigerators come with water filters. If the filters are dirty or incorrectly installed, water does not freely run. Remove the filter and try the water dispenser again. If water comes out, the filter was either incorrectly installed or needs replacing. If you have a reverse-osmosis filter installed on your cold water line, the line may not produce enough water pressure to send water through the hose of your KitchenAid refrigerator.

    Locks

    • Many KitchenAid refrigerators come with a lock option for the water dispenser. This option prevents unsupervised children from operating the dispenser. Holding the “LOCKOUT” key down for three seconds unlocks the dispenser, allowing water to freely flow. After a power outage, the refrigerator may display “PF” indicating power failure. Pressing the reset button unlocks the water dispenser after a power failure.
