I Have an Odor From a Gas in My Refrigerator

The fridge is a common source of odor due to the variety of food that is stored there for extended periods of time. The air also doesn't circulate much because the door is closed a majority of the time, and this contributes to odor buildup as well. If your fridge had a gas leak, it likely caused unpleasant smells to develop in the fridge. Once the leak is found and repaired, eliminating the odor is important as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the fridge and empty out its contents. Leave the doors open so fresh air gets in since the ventilation helps eliminate gas odors.

    • 2

Remove the shelves and drawers and wash them in warm water and several drops of dish soap.

    • 3

Spray the inside of the fridge with white vinegar from a spray bottle and wipe down the walls, sides and fixtures with a damp rag. This cleans off the surfaces and helps eliminate smells caused by the gas condensing inside the fridge. White vinegar is also an effective deodorizer.

    • 4

Wipe down all your food packaging with a damp rag to help clean off any remaining effects from the previous gas leak. Place them back in the fridge once you're done.

    • 5

Open a box of baking soda and leave it inside the fridge to further help absorb any remaining gas fumes from the previous leak.
