How to Change the Color on the Front of a Fridge's Ice Maker

The front of your ice maker on your refrigerator can stick out like a sore thumb. You can change the look of your refrigerator’s ice maker by covering the front of it with an appliance film. This film is resistant to stains, scratches, chemicals and fingerprints. In addition, the appliance film is available in various finishes such as stainless steel.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the front of the ice maker -- including the width and height -- with a tape measure and write the measurement on a piece of paper. Add an additional 1/2 inch to each side of the ice maker.

    • 2

Clean the front of the ice maker with a cloth dampened with soapy water and rinse clean. Wipe the front of the ice maker dry with a lint-free cloth.

    • 3

Dampen the surface of the ice maker lightly with water. The water will help the film adhere better to the surface.

    • 4

Cut the appliance film based on the measurements you took and calculated in Step 1. Use a sharp utility knife and cut each side of the film in one motion.

    • 5

Lay the film with the backing facing up out flat on a level, clean surface. Pull the top corner inch of the backing down carefully.

    • 6

Align the sticky part of the film with the corresponding corner of the ice maker and press it against the surface. Smooth from the center of the film to the edge with your hand.

    • 7

Continue slowly removing the backing from the film while pressing and smoothing it against the surface with your hand until you have attached the film to the surface of the ice maker.

    • 8

Start pressing air bubbles out of the film with a squeegee. Work from the middle out to the edges.

    • 9

Use a clean, sharp utility knife to cut away the excess appliance film sticking out from the sides of the ice maker. Wipe the film dry with a lint-free cloth.
