How to Replace the Valve Dispenser on a GE Arctica PSS25MGMB

The GE Arctica PSS25MGMB features a built-in automatic icemaker with an in-door dispenser. A solenoid valve in the in-door dispenser stops water from continuously flowing to your refrigerator, dispensing it only if the refrigerator requires it. If the water is not flowing properly or you have a leak, you may need to replace the solenoid valve. You can complete the repair in minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the GE Arctica refrigerator’s power cord from the electrical outlet. Scoot the refrigerator away from the wall to provide access to the water supply valve.

    • 2

Turn off the water supply valve that runs to the refrigerator.

    • 3

Move back to the front of the refrigerator and remove the display trim from around the in-door ice dispenser. Four clips attach the trim to the dispenser, and the clips run along the outer frame of the trim. Disengage the clips by pushing in the interior side of the trim while pulling the outside of the trim away from the refrigerator.

    • 4

Lift up on the control panel to pop it off. After it is removed, you will notice three wire harnesses connect to the control panel and that the control panel covered the dispenser’s housing assembly.

    • 5

Turn the control panel over and unplug the wire harnesses from the back of the panel. Place the control panel to the side.

    • 6

Unscrew the four screws on the dispenser’s housing assembly with a Phillips screwdriver and pull the housing assembly out from the refrigerator. You will now be able to see the solenoid valve dispenser on the right side.

    • 7

Unscrew the two screws on the bottom that hold the solenoid valve in place and loosen the top screw. You do not need to remove the top screw.

    • 8

Slide the solenoid valve down to remove it from the refrigerator. A small plunger inside the valve will remain hanging from where you removed the valve.

    • 9

Grasp the ice door and lift it up until you can slide the plunger off the small hook. When you open the ice door, it moves the hook away from the back wall, providing access to remove the plunger.

    • 10

Lift the ice door up again and slide the new plunger back into place. Slide the new solenoid valve back into place. The small notch on the right side of the valve must slide up and under the screw that you loosened.

    • 11

Tighten the top screw and replace the two bottom screws.

    • 12

Gather up the wire harnesses and hold them in one hand while you slide the dispenser housing back into place. Make sure to pull the wire harnesses through the top of the housing and then screw the housing back into place.

    • 13

Reconnect the wire harnesses to the control board and snap the control board back into place. Push the top end of the control panel into the housing and push the bottom in until it locks into place.

    • 14

Line the trim panel back up with the dispenser and snap it back on.

    • 15

Turn the water supply back on. Plug the refrigerator’s power cord back into the electrical outlet.
