What Do Sub-Zero Appliances Do?

One of the top manufacturers of high-end, built-in refrigerators is Sub-Zero. Although the company merged with Wolf -- a manufacturer of ovens, ranges and cook-tops -- in 2000, Sub-Zero only makes refrigerators. However, these are no ordinary, run-of-the-mill refrigerators. In fact, these refrigerators can be ordered in custom finishes for the most discerning homeowner.
  1. Sub-Zero

    • Sub-Zero is a U.S. company that makes refrigerators and refrigerator/freezer combinations under the brand name Sub-Zero. The company uses a dual refrigeration process in its appliances to keep food fresh. Sub-Zero also uses the following systems when designing its appliances: anti-microbial atmosphere purification, magnetic sealing on doors and closures and precise temperature management. The purification system is designed to reduce odors, bacteria, gases and contaminants to keep the food as fresh as possible.

    Types

    • Sub-Zero designs appliances for a built-in, integrated look. Using additional grilles or panels in stainless or wood veneer, the refrigerator is built to be flush with the cabinetry in the buyer's kitchen -- floor to ceiling and top to bottom. Sub-Zero also manufactures under-counter refrigerators for use in butler's pantries, bar areas or even commercial office installations. Sub-Zero's product inventory also includes a series of wine cooling refrigerators designed for built-in or free-standing use.

    Design Features

    • Sub-Zero's dual refrigeration system is designed as two self-contained but separate cooling systems. One system cools the fresh food, and the other system preserves items placed in the freezer. Each refrigerator has a fully lighted interior with no dark interior corners or drawers. Deli and crisper drawers have their own low-temperature control. Exterior doors and panels can be equipped with either a see-through panel, a full stainless steel finish, a painted wood or veneer panel, or a custom finish. Painted or wood veneer panels may also incorporate a stainless steel frame and handles.

    Technical Features

    • Many of Sub-Zero's refrigerators are Energy Star-rated and meet the energy-efficiency criteria for appliances as established by the U.S. Department Of Energy. Sub-Zero posts the total cost for each model's annual energy usage under the refrigerator's list of features. Each refrigerator is monitored with an electronic microprocessor for freshness and odor control. All of Sub-Zero's refrigerators are made in the U.S.
