How to Remove a Freezer Shelf from a Maytag RTW22A

Maytag uses a wire shelf in its model RTW22A and other top-mount refrigerators. The shelf is adjustable to accommodate changing loads in the freezer. Sometimes removing the RTW22A's freezer shelf is necessary to make extra space for large food items. Each side of the shelf has two wire ends that act as securing pins. One side of the shelf must be released before the opposite side can be removed. Removing the freezer shelf requires full access to that part.

     Open the freezer door. Take all of the food items and containers off the freezer's shelf, and remove all items from under the shelf. It is necessary to have room under the shelf to remove the shelf from the freezer.

     Place your hands under each side of the shelf. Lift the shelf slightly, and slide it to the right side of the freezer compartment.

     Tilt the shelf's left side upward until its two wire ends that act as securing pins are away from the freezer wall. Pull the shelf to the left, and remove it from the freezer.
