How to Solve a Hinge Problem on a Refrigerator Door

Your refrigerator is made up of many high-tech internal components. However, one of the most important parts of the unit is the door. A functional refrigerator door seals the unit and prevents cool air from escaping. If your fridge door is off-center, it is perhaps the result of a loose hinge. You can tighten a loose hinge in a matter of minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug your refrigerator and remove all bins and food from the inside of the door.

    • 2

Remove any screws from the plastic hinge cover on the top corner of the refrigerator.

    • 3

Remove the cover to expose the hinge.

    • 4

Tighten any loose screws with your screwdriver. For hex-head screws secure the hinges and then use a nut driver to remove the screws. If the hinges are bent out of shape, cracked or otherwise damaged beyond repair, they will need to be replaced.

    • 5

Remove the screws from the metal hinge and remove the hinge from the door.

    • 6

Fit new hinges over the door corner and replace the screws.
