How to Light an Arcoaire EPD Furnace

An Arcoaire EPD furnace operates by using coil glow plugs to ignite and not a pilot light. To light the furnace, you must have the unit set up to your homes main gas supply and plugged into an electrical outlet. The unit should stay lit until a glow plug goes bad unless there is another issue with the furnace.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the power to the furnace at your electrical power box.

    • 2

Turn the thermostat’s heat setting to the lowest position.

    • 3

Locate and remove the screws that cover the access panel on the furnace with a Phillips screwdriver. Removing the access panel will expose the gas knob.

    • 4

Adjust the gas knob on the unit to the “Off” position by turning the knob clockwise. Smell for gas. If you smell gas, immediately call your gas company and do not continue to light the furnace. If you do not smell gas then you can continue on.

    • 5

Allow the unit to sit for five minutes, and then adjust the gas knob on the unit to the “On” position by turning the knob counterclockwise. Again, if you smell gas, do not attempt this step.

    • 6

Line the access panel back up on the furnace and screw it back into place.

    • 7

Return power to the furnace at your electrical breaker box.

    • 8

Set the thermostat to the desired temperature and then unit will self ignite.
