How to Replace the Ignitor Switch on a Maytag MGR6875ADS Gas Stove

The Maytag MGR6875ADS is a freestanding gas stove that typically has five sealed burners. When the ignitor switch malfunctions, the stove cannot work properly and will need to be replaced. Fortunately, replacing the switch is a relatively simple process you can do yourself with a few common tools. However, trying to repair the gas stove yourself may void the manufacturers’ warranty. Before repairing your Maytag gas stove, refer to the appliance’s warranty.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the gas supply running to the gas stove. This will prevent possible health hazards caused by leaked gas.

    • 2

Grasp each burner dial with your hand and gently pull them off the stove. Wipe the burner dials clean with a damp, soapy cloth and dry with a towel.

    • 3

Remove the screws that keep the front cover on the stove with a Phillips head screwdriver. Pull the cover off the stove and place the cover in a safe location.

    • 4

Grasp the ignitor switch wires with your hand and slide them off the terminals. Remember which wires go where. Connect the wires to the new ignitor switch and place it back into position.

    • 5

Slide the front cover back on the stove and secure it in place with the screws. Reattach the burner dials.
