How to Control a Soft Water Filter

Water that is high in dissolved minerals such as calcium and magnesium is known as hard water, which can cause clogged water pipes and plumbing, spotted dishes and soap that won't lather and rinse. Soft water filters can be installed to remove hard water minerals. As a soft water filter owner, you can control the day and time the filter runs as well as the regeneration, rinse and refill cycles. Although each soft water filter may vary in appearance, the control mechanism is similar across most models.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the control box on the back of the soft water filter.

    • 2

Pull open the control box cover to access the control switches.

    • 3

Rotate the program wheel counter clockwise to set the days in which the water conditioner regenerates.

    • 4

Press and hold the setup button, which may be red, to disengage the drive gear.

    • 5

Rotate the large gear, or the 24-hour gear, to the time of day you want the water conditioner to regenerate.

    • 6

Release the setup button to engage the drive gear.

    • 7

Turn the regeneration knob located in the center of the 24-hour gear clockwise to manually start regeneration.

    • 8

Remove the program wheel to change the regeneration cycle program. Grasp the wheel and push on the protruding lugs towards the center to pop the wheel off.

    • 9

Rotate the control wheel to the desired settings for the length of brine, rinse time and tank refill time.

    • 10

Put the program wheel over the control wheel and pop it into place.

    • 11

      Close the control box cover.
