Measure the boiler and the basement entryway to ensure there is enough space to move the boiler through. If necessary, remove boiler components using a screwdriver or wrench.
Tape foam padding or bubble wrap around the edges of the boiler to prevent scuffing walls or doorways that the boiler brushes against.
Test the dolly’s battery by turning it on. If the dolly doesn’t start moving or moves slowly, turn it off and replace the battery. Test the dolly again until it moves when you turn it on.
Carefully slide the dolly’s bottom panel underneath the boiler. Secure the boiler in place with the dolly’s straps. Tighten them securely to prevent the boiler from shifting or slipping during movement.
Position the dolly so that the handle faces up and the dolly’s wheels rest at the top of the steps.
Stand behind the dolly and hold on to the handle. Turn the dolly on and slowly step down the stairs as it automatically climbs down. Turn off the dolly when you reach the foot of the stairs.
Roll the boiler to its desired location using the dolly. Alternately, remove the boiler from the dolly and slide it in place, using cardboard sheets to make a smooth gliding path.
