Faucets That Turn on With Touch

There are many types of faucets available for purchase today, including faucets that don't require the user to turn a handle to turn on the water. One variety is a faucet that turns on when the user touches it rather than requiring the user to turn the handle to get water. This technology has a lot of appeal to many people. However, there are a few drawbacks and inconveniences that should be noted before you purchase a touch faucet.
  1. Benefits

    • Touch faucets don't require the user to touch the handle, which is its major convenient feature. The user won't get the handle dirty when she wants to wash her hands, as she can touch the faucet with her wrist or elbow to turn on the water instead. This can also prevent the spread of germs. As an additional benefit, users may be less likely to leave the water running, since the faucet is easier to turn off, if they need to step away from the sink for a moment, which makes this a potentially eco-friendly option. Many models also turn off automatically after a set period of inactivity, which avoids problems like overflowing sinks.

    Temperature

    • A touch faucet has a single handle, and the temperature of the water is controlled in essentially the same way as a normal single-handle faucet. The user moves the handle toward the desired temperature, warm or cold. The handle also indicates the water temperature when the user turns on the water with a touch. This is an easy and intuitive method. But if you want a different water temperature, you'll need to touch the handle.

    Water Flow

    • Like the temperature, the flow of water can be controlled manually by the single handle, and the water flow will be the same as it was when you last used the faucet. This offers the same convenience and drawbacks as using the handle to adjust the temperature -- adjusting the water flow requires you to touch the handle.

    Electricity

    • Installing a touch faucet is fairly similar to installing a normal faucet, so it's not necessary to hire an electrician or specialist of any kind to deal with the electrical components or to buy a particular kind of sink. However, these kinds of faucets use batteries. Touch faucets have an electrical current. When you touch it, this grounds the electricity, sending a signal to a computer, which turns the faucet on and off. The batteries do last for a long time, but it should be noted that they require replacing around once a year for normal use, and the touch technology does not work without them.
