How to Set Jumpers on a Wireless Chime Kit

From a simple “ding dong” to something louder, you can change chimes on a wireless chime kit, also known as a wireless chime door kit, via a set of jumpers. You set these jumpers by removing one or more pushbuttons and placing the pushbuttons in an “on” or “off” position. To set the jumpers on your wireless chime kit, you don’t need anything but a pair of tweezers or pliers to pull out the jumper’s pushbuttons and place them on the appropriate jumper.

Instructions

Turn your wireless chime door kit’s pushbutton transmitter upside down, open its battery door and remove the transmitter’s battery.

    • 2

Locate the row of jumpers above, below or somewhere near the transmitter’s battery. The jumpers are pieces of metal enclosed in plastic, and next to each jumper are numbers. Check inside the transmitter’s battery door or in your wireless chime door kit’s documentation to find a list of available chimes you can set by removing one or more jumpers from the number “7,” “8” or “9” position -- Westminster, Ding Dong, Knock Off, Bronze Chime or another chime.

Use a pair of tweezers or pliers to remove the jumper from the number “7,” “8” or “9” position’s metal pins matching the chime you want to set. If a jumper is removed, the position is “Off.” If a jumper is in place, the position is “On.” For example, if the chimes list states that the Westminster chime is “On,” “Off” and “Off,” you would leave the number “7” jumper in place and remove the number “8” and “9” jumpers.

Use a pair of tweezers or pliers to place the unused jumpers on just one of the jumpers’ unused metal pins. The unused jumpers will hang off the unused metal pins -- this is OK. Reinstall the transmitter's battery and battery door.
