How to Replace a Broken Plug on a Toaster Oven

If the cord on your toaster oven is frayed or the plug is cracked, you could be risking a fire if you continue to use the appliance. But you don't have to toss the whole oven because of a broken plug. You can attach a new plug and continue to make toast and waffles in your oven without worrying about a fire hazard. You don't need any special electrical knowledge to make this repair.

      Unplug the toaster oven. Using the utility knife, cut off the broken plug and discard.

      Remove the cover from a new plug. Unscrew the two screws and set aside and lift off the plastic cover. Feed the end of your cord through the hole in the back of the plug.

      Nick the cord about 1 inch from the end with the utility knife and peel back the insulation, exposing the wires in the plug. You should see three wires: green, black and white. These represent the ground, negative and positive wires.

      Twist the wires around the appropriate screws in your cord, following the diagram sold to with the plug. Each wire will be wrapped around a different colored screw.

      Tighten the screws to secure the wires. Slip the cover back onto the plug and tighten those screws.
