Reddy Heater R55 Instructions

The Reddy R55 torpedo heater is often used in open-air work sites, farms, ventilated workshops and outdoor areas that require heat. The 55,000 BTU Reddy heater can heat an area of a little over 1,000 square feet. The fan forces air from the heater and blows it in the direction the heater faces. Do not stand too close to the front of the heater, as the heat emitting from the end of the heater can catch your clothes on fire.

Instructions

    • 1

Position the R55 Reddy heater outdoors, or, if using indoors, ensure there is at least a 3-square-foot opening in an exterior wall to the outdoors near the heater for proper ventilation. The Reddy heater operates on kerosene and can cause carbon monoxide poisoning if used in a non-vented area.

    • 2

Place the heater on a sturdy, level surface. Move any combustible items at least eight feet away from the heater.

    • 3

Unscrew the fuel cap from the top of the fuel tank. Fill the tank with kerosene and secure the cap back onto the tank.

    • 4

Rotate the thermostat control knob to high if your heater comes equipped with one. Locate the control knob toward the back of the heater.

    • 5

Plug the power cord from the heater into a three-prong grounded extension cord. Use an 18-gauge extension cord for cord lengths of 10 feet or less. Use a 16-gauge cord for lengths between 11 and 100 feet. Use a 14-gauge extension cord for cord lengths between 100 and 200 feet.

    • 6

Plug the cord into a grounded wall outlet. The heater automatically starts after the igniter warms for five seconds. If your heater comes equipped with a thermostat control, turn it to your desired heat setting.

    • 7

Stop the heater by unplugging the extension cord from the wall outlet.
