Janitrol Gas Furnace Won't Ignite the Burner

When a Janitrol gas furnace is turned on, its ignitor should light the appliance's main burners. If your Janitrol furnace doesn't light at all, then its ignitor probably doesn't work. A bad ignitor needs to be replaced to make the furnace function. A furnace technician typically replaces an ignitor, but you can replace the component.

Instructions

    • 1

Flip the gas furnace's main power switch to the "Off" position. The main power switch is connected to the furnace. Also shut off the electrical power to the furnace by turning off its specific circuit breaker in your home's circuit breaker box.

    • 2

Slide the front access panel off the Janitrol furnace. You may need to remove screws in order to take off the front access panel. Once the panel is removed, you will be able to see the pilot light assembly. Next to it is a small, ceramic component, which is the ignitor.

    • 3

Remove the screws holding the ignitor in place.

    • 4

Unplug the wiring running to the ignitor, and remove the ignitor.

    • 5

Place a new Janitrol ignitor in the furnace, and plug in the wiring. Replace the screws.

    • 6

Replace the front panel and, if applicable, its screws.
