Maintenance for an Emerson Dehumidifier

Emerson dehumidifiers are used to lower the moisture content of a room or building. These appliances are useful in moist climates where the presence of water vapor in the air can be troublesome. Too much moisture can help spread disease, encourage the growth of mold and damage delicate materials. An Emerson dehumidifier runs air through its systems to draw out the moisture. Proper maintenance of your Emerson unit will ensure it runs smoothly.
  1. Filters

    • The most important aspect of Emerson dehumidifier maintenance is filter replacement. Dehumidifiers use filters to strain out particles from the air as they remove moisture. After several months of use these filters can be filled with debris and need to be removed and replaced. Many companies carry Emerson replacement filters.

    Cleaning

    • Your dehumidifier should not need much regular maintenance between filter changes. However, over time the water container that helps collect and drain the water drained from the air can become dirty, especially if your filter is old or the air has high amounts of dust. In this case, you need to remove the container and wipe it down. Check the container from month to month to make sure it is not getting too dirty.

    Cooling Coils

    • The cooling coils are what make your Emerson dehumidifier effective at removing moisture from the air. They do this in part by cooling the air. In cold conditioners, air temperature may be low already, which can increase the possibility of frost and ice on the cooling coils. In cold months inspect the coils to make sure they are clean and free of ice buildup.

    Settings

    • Your Emerson dehumidifier may have options to adjust the settings, controlling how much moisture you want to remain in the air. If you set the humidity level too low, the dehumidifier will run constantly and will not be able to efficiently remove moisture. Check the cycle and settings periodically to make sure the unit is not set too low.
