How to Troubleshoot the Honeywell Gas Control

Honeywell is a company that makes many different products in a range of industries including aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, fire protection and consumer and home. The Honeywell gas control is a device used for performing all of the functions required by gas-powered heating appliances, like a furnace. If you find your Honeywell gas control isn’t working as you’d like, try some troubleshooting fixes before calling for service.

Instructions

    • 1

Open up the main gas supply valve and purge the pilot gas supply line of air if the pilot will not light. Adjust the pilot light by removing the pilot adjustment cover screw and turning the inner screw clockwise to decrease the flame or counterclockwise to increase the flame.

    • 2

Hold in the gas control knob for at least one minute to give the thermocouple or generator time to heat if the pilot goes out when you let go of the gas control knob. Also, adjust the wall thermostat several degrees higher than the room temperature.

    • 3

Set the gas control knob in the "On" position and raise the thermostat several degrees if the main burner won’t come on when you want heat.

    • 4

Adjust the pressure regulator to the proper pressure for your appliance if the burner is over-firing. If the supply pressure stays in the normal range but the regulator can’t be adjusted, have your gas control replaced.
