How to Troubleshoot the Cycle Light on a Kenmore Electric Range

Kenmore manufactures lines of electric oven ranges that come with a host of features. One feature on many of these ovens is a self-cleaning cycle. This cycle is indicated by an LED light on the front of the oven. If you have been having problems using this feature, you can troubleshoot the light and get to the bottom of the issue.

Instructions

    • 1

If the cycle light on your Kenmore range lights up when the range is not in use then it could be the result of a surge. Open the circuit breaker panel in your home and locate the breaker that controls the circuit the range is connected to. Flip it to the "Off" position. Wait 10 seconds and then flip it to the "On" position. This will reset the range and could remedy a power surge.

Turn the control knobs to the "Off" position and wait for the unit to cool to room temperature. If your oven won't self-clean at all, it could be the result of the range being too hot. This may fix the problem.

Set the controls to the "Clean" position. The cycle light should appear and the cleaning cycle should begin. If the cycle light doesn't appear, but the unit starts the cleaning cycle anyway, the LED indicator light could be blown and will need to be replaced. If the cycle light appears but the cycle doesn't begin, proceed to the next step.

Ensure that the latch on the oven door is set all the way to the right, and is in the locked position. If none of these solutions work, the self-cleaning feature on your oven may be damaged beyond repair and the unit may need to be replaced.
