My Kenmore Electric Range Oven Is Overheating

The Kenmore electric range's oven setting is configured by default to the appropriate level for baking and broiling, and can overheat if the temperature is set too high or left on for a long period. Proper maintenance of your electric range reduces overheating problems, but persistent overheating requires professional repair to eliminate the problem.
  1. Causes

    • Prolonged periods of baking or broiling negatively affect the performance of your Kenmore oven, and can lead to overheating that disrupts proper cooking time of your food. If your oven was owned previously, it might have been calibrated to a higher temperature, which increases the cooking speed and leads to overcooking.

    Resolution

    • Recalibrating the oven's temperature ensures the oven cooks at the proper speed it was initially configured for, and can be performed through the oven's control panel. Holding "Bake" until it beeps, followed by pressing "2" and "0" and "Flex Clean" on the control panel launches the oven's configuration settings. The "+" or "-" buttons allow you to raise or lower the current oven temperature, and allow you to save the changes by pushing "Start."

    Warmer Drawer

    • The warmer drawer on some Kenmore electric ovens maintain the temperature of your cooked food by providing a low level of heat after the baking or broiling process is finished. You could have a problem with the warmer drawer if the oven continuously overheats while the warmer drawer feature is enabled. The drawer's heating feature can be disabled by turning the knob on the front of the control panel to the off position, and leaving it off until it is necessary to use.

    Advanced Troubleshooting

    • A problem with your electric range's electronic control board could be the cause of the oven's overheating issue. The electronic control board is located inside of the range behind the front panel, and is replaceable with the help of a technician to remove and replace the part.
