My Kenmore Electric Stove's Light Will Not Go Out

The Kenmore Electric range includes an oven light that is controllable from your range's control panel and allows you to check the status of your food's cooking process with the use of a 40-watt bulb. A light that remains on well after the cooking process is finished may require a replacement or an appliance reset to troubleshoot the issue. Alternatively, the oven lockout feature may be enabled and preventing you from operating the oven. Contact a Kenmore repair specialist if the light remains on, as the problem may be due to a faulty control panel.
  1. Power Issues

    • A power surge or power failure can affect your stove's ability to respond to touch commands. You can troubleshoot the issue by resetting the power on your home's circuit breaker or fuse box. The oven's controls should respond to your touch commands when the power is reset and requires manually resetting its previously configured controls.

    Light Replacement

    • The oven light might be approaching the end of its life cycle and may require a new 40-watt bulb to restore proper functioning. The oven light is extremely hot while the oven is in use and should be replaced only after the oven has cooled off completely after cooking.

    Oven Lockout

    • The oven lockout feature may be enabled, which disables the range's control panel while active. The oven lockout can be turned on or off by continuously pressing the oven lockout control for three seconds. The control panel displays an illuminated lock icon when the control lock is on. Once disabled, turn off the oven light by simply pressing the oven light button on the control panel.

    Oven Reset

    • You may need to reset the oven to restore use of the oven light. Disconnecting the oven's power cord from the electrical outlet and waiting one minute before plugging it back in cycles the appliance's power. Once reset, the oven's clock requires manual configuration to set the correct time. Plug the oven into a grounded wall outlet to protect it from future power issues.
