A Frigidaire gas oven has an igniter in the base of the unit. When you turn on the oven, gas flows into the unit and the igniter bar heats up to spark a flame. The flame heats the oven to the temperature you set through the controls. As the sensors measure the heat inside the oven, the flames cycle on and off to help maintain the temperature.
If your oven is not heating, the first thing to do is perform a visual check. Turn off the oven, let it cool, then remove the bottom plate from inside the cavity. This process may vary depending on your Frigidaire model, so defer to your unit’s service manual. Turn on the oven and watch the igniter. If it doesn’t change, it’s broken. If it glows red or orange, it appears to be functioning.
If the igniter is glowing orange but not heating, test its amperage. Turn off the oven and let it cool down. Remove the wire connectors from the igniter and use a multitester to check the amperage. Ideal readings vary depending on the model, but if the multitester gives you a zero or infinity reading, the igniter is faulty.
If the igniter is faulty, replace it to get the heat working in your oven. Remember that if your Frigidaire oven still has a valid warranty, you must have a Frigidaire certified repair technician perform the replacement to avoid voiding the warranty. Contact Frigidaire customer care at 1-800-374-4432 to schedule a service call. Otherwise, contact Frigidaire for the service manual to your unit and replacement parts if you choose to replace the igniter yourself.
