Removing the Stainless Trim on a GE Gas Cooktop

The stainless steel trim rings that are under the burner bowls of a GE gas cooktop help to keep the burner bowls from shifting around. When disassembling the burners for cleaning or repair, you can remove the trim rings as well. Over time, the trim rings may also need to be replaced if they begin to rust. Removing the trim rings from the cooktop to clean or replace will only take a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver (for some models)

Instructions

    • 1

Lift up and remove the grates that cover the burners.

    • 2

Pull up on the burner caps to remove them.

    • 3

Lift out the burner bowl that is around the burner. Removing the burner bowl will expose the trim ring.

    • 4

Wedge a flat-head screwdriver under the edge of the stainless steel trim ring. Some models have a screw in place that holds the trim ring stable, so use a Phillips screwdriver to remove this screw before wedging the flat-head screwdriver under it.

    • 5

Lift up on the screwdriver to pry the trim ring up. Lift the ring off and away from the burner.

    • 6

Repeat for all of the other trim rings.
