Why Does My Sharp Convection Oven Cut Off After a Few Minutes?

A convection oven can cut down on the time it takes to cook your meal. However, it can be very frustrating when your Sharp convection oven cuts off after only cooking for a few minutes. Many Sharp convection ovens offer microwaving and broiling options as well. More options means more buttons and instructions, which can complicate the cooking process. Yet the oven cutting off after a few minutes may indicate that there is a simple problem you can solve on your own.
  1. Power

    • The Sharp convection oven plug is a three-pronged plug that has a grounding pin at its tip. In order for the oven to work properly, you need to plug it into a 120 volt, 60 herz, alternating-current, 15 ampules grounded wall outlet. A grounded outlet has an interior wire that can safely discharge the electrical current in case of a short circuit in the oven's cord. This prevents you from getting a shock. The oven should also be on its own electrical circuit. Check the circuit breaker at your house's electrical box, and reset it if it has tripped. Ensure that you have the correct electrical outlet and a dedicated circuit for the oven if it continues to cut off.

    Cooking Time

    • Cooking time on your Sharp convection oven is is expressed in minutes and seconds. For example, if you want to cook food for 30 minutes, you must enter the cooking time as "30.00." Entering a time such as "30" without the decimal and the two zeros indicating seconds causes the convection oven to cut off after 30 seconds. Entering "3.00" instead of "30.00" sets the convection to cook for only three minutes.

    Compu Settings

    • A Sharp convection and microwave oven combination oven has a variety of "Compu" or automatic settings. For example, the "Compu Defrost" setting is for using the microwave function to defrost foods such as meat. Touching this keypad once or several times automatically starts the oven, and it cuts off after a few minutes when the food has defrosted. If you want to "Compu Broil," "Compu Roast" or "Compu Bake" with the convection oven, make sure you press one of these buttons instead of "Compu Defrost." The display will ask you for the food type, quantity or weight.

    Demonstration Mode

    • The Demonstration Mode on the Sharp convection oven shows how each cooking mode works. However, the oven does not actually cook while in Demonstration Mode. For example, if you wanted to see how the convection oven "Compu Broil" works, press "CLOCK," the number "0" and "START/TOUCH ON" for 3 seconds. Press "Compu Broil," and enter the type of food and broiling time. You may enter "30.00" for 30 minutes of broiling time; however, the oven may only take a minute or two to count down 30 minutes in Demonstration Mode. You must cancel Demonstration Mode by pressing "CLOCK," the number "0" and "STOP/CLEAR" before you can set an actual cooking mode.
