As the Whirlpool dehumidifier draws moisture from the air, water is deposited in a tank. When the tank becomes full, it presses against a switch, and the dehumidifier automatically shuts off. Unplug the unit from the wall outlet and remove the tank. Pour the water into a sink and reinstall the tank. Manually reset the switch found near the base of the tank to start operation again.
Another reason your dehumidifier may not be working is that humidity levels in the room are at the appropriate level. Change the humidistat to a dryer setting to restart the dehumidifier's operation.
Not all Whirlpool dehumidifiers are designed to work in cold temperatures. Depending on the model, your dehumidifier is not designed for temperatures below 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Under these conditions, the coils will freeze and the dehumidifier will not operate.
A fan draws air in from the room to remove moisture from it. If the fan is not working, the dehumidifier won't work. Check to see that the fan is operating properly. If not, you may need to lubricate the fan or wash the blades. If the fan still fails to operate, replace the motor or the blades.
