When Does the Temperature Alarm Go Off in a Haier Freezer?

Haier offers a temperature alarm feature on some of its freezer models. Its goal is to work as an alert when the temperature rises to a certain level. Particular problems can cause a temperature rise. Some of those problems are preventable or resolvable if you understand what can affect freezer temperature.
  1. What Happens

    • The temperature alarm is set to sound when the internal temperature reaches about 15.8 degrees Fahrenheit. The alarm continues to go off until the temperature alarm switch is turned off. A red light may also appear on the display to warn the temperature is too high.

    Why it Happens

    • The alarm may go off if the thermostat temperature is set too warm. The temperature of the freezer is affected if the door is left open, not closed tightly or opened too often. Placing warm food in the freezer can cause the internal temperature to rise. The temperature can increase if the power goes out or the power cord or outlet does not provide sufficient energy. A dirty condenser or an operational failure may prevent the appliance from working correctly.

    Resolving

    • Set the thermostat temperature to zero degrees Fahrenheit or lower. Open the door less frequently. Close the door tightly; inspect the seal periodically to ensure it is tight. Cool food to room temperature before storing it. Do not open the freezer during a power interruption until the power is restored. Do not use an extension cord; it may affect the power supplied to the freezer. Plug the power cord into a dedicated outlet with the proper voltage as specified for the model. Clean the condenser with a damp cloth or a vacuum attachment.

    Warnings and Tips

    • When initially switching the freezer on, turn the temperature alarm switch to "O" to prevent it from going off. After 24 hours when the freezer is sufficiently cool, turn the switch to "-." Do not turn off the freezer unless it is necessary; it can take up to 24 hours for the temperature to adjust. Hold the plug instead of the cord when unplugging the freezer. Do not use the freezer if it has a damaged power cord; contact a Haier service center for a replacement.
