How to Install a Corry Fireplace

A Dimplex Corry fireplace insert can provide extra heat in a room without adding the smoky smell you might get from a wood fireplace and the mess of wood ash. The electric Corry fireplace simply plugs into a nearby outlet to provide both heat and the ambiance of a wood fireplace. If you wish to operate the fireplace without heat, that is an option as well. The fireplace installation process is straightforward, even for someone with limited DIY skills.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any ashes, logs and fireplace tools that remain in the fireplace opening. Close the flue and seal the vents with non-fibrous insulation material.

    • 2

Climb onto the roof using a ladder. Place a cap on the chimney flue -- if there is not one there already -- to keep debris from falling down it and onto the fireplace. Follow directions on the flue cap for its installation.

    • 3

Unwrap the plastic shipping paper from the fireplace insert. Take the foam block out of the center of the fireplace. Clip the ties that hold the log set in place, using wire cutters.

    • 4

Unscrew the four Philips-head screws from the right side of the fireplace frame. Pull the right side of the frame off the fireplace.

    • 5

Slide the fireplace glass into the horizontal track that runs just behind the fireplace frame. Once the glass is in place, reattach the right side of the frame and secure it with the four screws you removed in Step 2.

    • 6

Place the Corry fireplace inside the fireplace opening. The Corry fireplace has two spacers on the bottom of the unit that allow for air circulation. Do not remove them. As you put the fireplace insert in position, pull the cord out on the side nearest the 15-amp, 120-volt outlet you plan to use. Take care not to pinch the cord as you set the fireplace in position.

    • 7

Plug in the Corry fireplace. Flip down the lower panel to expose the controls. Set the flames to the height you desire. Turn the thermostat knob clockwise to turn on the unit. Turn it counter clockwise to set the fireplace to the desired temperature.
