How to Repair Door Glass on a Whirlpool Gold AccuBake Oven GR450LXLT0

Whirlpool ovens feature glass doors that give you a view of what's cooking inside. Every time you open an oven door, hot air escapes, which lowers the internal temperature and increases the cooking time. Damage to the glass door might result in uneven temperatures or longer cooking times because the damage lets cold air in and warmer air escape. Repairing the glass door on an Accubake oven might include repairing scratches or chips, fixing hinges or replacing the door completely.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix a few drops of dish soap with warm water in a small bowl until you have suds. Clean the glass door with the mixture applied with a microfiber cloth. Wipe a damp cloth across the glass door to remove any soapy residue then dry it with another microfiber cloth.

    • 2

Locate the hinges inside the oven if the glass door opens too quickly or closes with a loud bang. Carefully tighten the hinge screws to push the hinges back into place. This should make the door open and close smoothly.

    • 3

Apply a small amount of spray lubricant to the inside of the door and the hinges if the door squeaks excessively. Let the lubricant slide through the hinges for a few minutes then wipe off the excess.

    • 4

Examine the glass door for any scratches. Apply a thin layer of clear nail polish or super glue to the inside of the scratch. Let the first layer dry then apply a second coat. Apply additional coats until the nail polish or glue sits flush with the surrounding glass. Wipe a cloth dampened with nail polish remover across the top to pull off the excess.

Repeat Step 4 for any cracks or chips in the glass door. Clear nail polish or super glue covers the damaged area but dries clear, which lets the repaired area blend into the surrounding glass. Wait for the repaired area to dry completely before using the oven.
