Sealing PTAC Air Conditioners

A packaged terminal air conditioner, or PTAC, is an air conditioning and heating unit meant to heat or cool one room. They are installed through the main wall of a home or hotel room in a wall sleeve. The wall sleeve is a metal box build into the wall to contain the PTAC unit. After the unit has been installed, proper weather sealing should be done to keep the unit from causing unwanted air leaks.

Instructions

    • 1

Squeeze a thick layer of silicon caulk around the outside of the wall sleeve where it meets the wall. Fill any gaps between the metal and the sleeve with caulk to seal it properly.

    • 2

Remove the front of the PTAC unit by pulling it out by the bottom and lifting it up to release.

    • 3

Slip the chassis into the wall sleeve until the flanges on the chassis meet the wall sleeve. Use the screwdriver to tighten the screws in the flanges to seal the chassis to the wall sleeve.

    • 4

Hook the top of the PTAC cover over the chassis’ top and push the cover into the bottom to secure it.
