How to Install a Water Filter Reverse Osmosis System With a Single Sink

Reverse osmosis water filter systems provide clean drinking water to a kitchen sink. With such a system, water will run from your water line through the reverse osmosis system tank and its filter, then up and out of a handy water dispenser spout located next to your water faucet. In most cases, you can install a reverse osmosis system under your sink in less than an hour.

Things You'll Need

  • Carbide drill bit (optional)
  • Protective goggles (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Clean out an area under your sink that will fit the reverse osmosis tank, then turn off the water supply that runs to the sink. The knob for the water supply should be underneath the sink.

    • 2

Drill a hole on top of your sink’s back panel, for the water dispenser, if your sink does not have an empty spot. If you need to drill, use a carbide drill bit and wear safety goggles.

    • 3

Slide the water dispenser spout up through the hole and tighten it into place with the mounting nuts.

    • 4

Place the tank under the sink, then unscrew the water supply line that runs to the sink.

    • 5

Connect the splitter to the main water valve, then connect the water line from your sink to one end and the line from the tank to the other end. The splitter will come with the system.

    • 6

Attach the line that runs from the water dispenser spout to the outlet line on the tank. Twist the lock on the end of the line until it is secure.

    • 7

Attach the overflow line to your sink's drain line. Slide the drain saddle over the end of the tube to tighten the tube to the drain line. The drain saddle comes with the system.

    • 8

Plug in the reverse osmosis filter’s electrical outlet plug into the electrical outlet.

    • 9

Turn your water supply back on, and then allow the tank to fill up.

    • 10

Turn on the water dispenser spout and allow at least 1 gallon of water to run through the filter before first use.
