The Intertherm Thermostat Is Not Cutting Off While Heating

Intertherm furnaces are designed primarily for use in manufactured homes. Furnaces are available in electric, gas and oil models and are also available in split air conditioner and heat pump systems. The furnaces meet U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) standards and are operated through a primary thermostat in the mobile home. However, if the furnace is not turning off even when the set thermostat point is reached, some inspection and troubleshooting may be needed to operate the furnace and the thermostat correctly.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the thermostat associated with the home heating and cooling system, typically on an interior wall.

    • 2

Set the thermostat to a temperature approximately five or 10 degrees lower than the current temperature point.

    • 3

Adjust the thermostat controls to “Auto” and “Heat” to automatically turn off the furnace heat when the home reaches the set thermostat temperature point.

    • 4

Open the access panel on the furnace and hold down the scaleplate dial with one hand while turning the “Fan On” lever to approximately 110 degrees Fahrenheit. The scaleplate dial is the top dial above the fan indicators.

    • 5

Continue to hold down the scaleplate dial with one hand and turn the “Fan Off” lever to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 6

Close the furnace access panel and wait at least 30 minutes for the furnace and thermostat to adjust as necessary.

    • 7

Inspect the location of the thermostat if the furnace continues to heat even when the thermostat is set correctly. Check the room for draft sources that may influence the thermostat reading, such as doors, windows or unheated rooms such as a garage. Keep all vents and registers in the home open for better air flow and temperature control.
