How to Convert an LP Gas Grill to NG

The difference between natural gas (NG) and liquid petroleum (LP), also known as propane, is that natural gas moves at a lower pressure. This means that the orifices on a natural gas grill are larger than the ones on an LP grill. A propane grill can be converted to natural gas as long as you have the proper regulator and you widen the orifices on the grill with a drill.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the LP regulator on the grill with a wrench. If the regulator won’t come off with the wrench, cut the hoses to remove it.

    • 2

Loosen the control panel from the grill with a screwdriver and lift it off the grill. Pull the burner tubes from the control knob assembly under the panel to reveal the burner orifices. Drill into the orifices with a 1/16-inch drill bit to widen them.

Remove the screws in the box over the control knob orifices. Use the drill with the 1/16-inch bit to make a larger hole in the small control knob orifice. Screw the box back over the orifices. Slide the burner tube back into the burner orifices and the control knob assembly.

Screw one end of the gas line into the grill. Screw the other end into your source of natural gas.
