GE Vacuum Cleaner Bags Information

General Electric, or GE, has been in operation since 1892. Since the middle of the 20th century it has manufactured and sold many small, household appliances, among them an array of affordable and relatively lightweight vacuum cleaners. Selling everything from upright to canister and compact to central models, bag choices depend solely on the vacuum model you are using.
  1. Bags

    • Vacuum cleaner bags are the reservoir for debris that is sucked up by the machine. The debris, dust and allergens are caught in the bag to completely remove them from the atmosphere, and not just from the carpet or floor. Some are more effective than others; the tighter the weave in the bag material, the more dust and allergens it traps. The bag must still breathe so that suction remains strong.

    By Letter

    • GE vacuum bags are identified first by a letter. The letter tells you what style vacuum that bag is made to fit. The most common letters are C, D, E, F, G, J, K and U. The letters C, D and E indicate the bag is designed for upright models. Types F, J and K bags fit canister models. Types G and U are made for hand-held models. Before shopping for a bag, be sure you know your vacuum cleaner type.

    By Model

    • The type letter is usually followed by a string of numbers, and these typically correspond with the model number of the vacuum they are meant to fit. Have the model number of your vacuum handy when shopping for bags so you are certain to get the proper bag for your unit. It is never a good idea to use a bag other than the one made specifically for your unit.

    Discontinuations

    • Too often, certain models of vacuums are discontinued to make room for new and improved models. This also discontinues that model's bag. If you happen to own and use a discontinued model, finding bags becomes tricky. Online shopping at places that sell overstock items are a good resource, as are small mom and pop vacuum repair shops.
